This time of transition for the entire planet has also provided me with plenty of time for reflecting upon the topics which have been the foundation of my lifepath--writing and presenting strategies and solutions for wellness and wellbeing. This post written 9 years ago, seems especially relevant today as Covid has shifted most of us into various degrees of transition. It is being shared at this time for its relevance, no matter the time or circumstances.
“The time is now, the place is here. Stay in the present. You can do nothing to change the
past, and the future will never come exactly as you plan or hope for.”
I received the above affirmation today and then pulled out a card about an hour later, “Transcend Your Circumstances” from Wayne Dyer’s The Power of Intention deck of wisdom. Do you want to transcend any circumstance in your life right now? Anything making you feel stuck? Trapped? Uncomfortable? Or wish it wasn’t your responsibility to handle? It might drain you, as in “I am SO sick of this!” Or a chronic source of suffering endured for what may seem forever.
How can you transcend any of the circumstances that cause such heartache? Transcendence comes from our choice to be where we are, feeling stuck or undesirable as it may be, but steadfast knowing it’s a growing season for us. It is an experience that will generate wisdom from a distance, a knowing that given some time, may all make sense, a necessary path for growth.
In the past few days I’ve connected with friends enduring many challenges–one of not getting a job that would have brought her exhausting year-long job search to an end; another of a contract not being renewed and the corresponding fear of scarcity that arises of future earnings and financial security; another feeling stuck in a toxic environment, and yet another of heavy responsibilities heaped upon her shoulders from legal entanglements that prevent moving forward.
Indeed when wedged into the tight and uncomfortable circumstances of life, we may feel imprisoned by them–stuck without signs of escape. Our present and our future often never does arrive as planned or hoped for, even if we practice all the steps in manifestation of what is truly desired. We may wonder, “How did these circumstances land in my life? Afterall, I’ve been such a faithful student of creative visualization and affirming positive outcomes!” Maybe clarity eventually does comes and you can see the perfect pattern of it all. But in the meantime, you are smack dab in the middle of being in the present, and must decide what to do with the fears, anxiety, anger, regret, resentment or other emotions that are taking up space.
Every moment, every situation and circumstance, you decide how you will experience it. Every moment. While it’s not easy to let go of the thoughts, fears and feelings that want to run your life in another direction, it is up to you to discard the ones that don’t support your wellbeing.
It’s your job to make shifts of attitude and actions that can transcend challenging times. Look around. Embrace all that is good and working in your world now, of what is beautiful, of what you appreciate, and the treasured lifeline of caring hearts that are there to help you hang on through it all.
Your present circumstances might be unbearable, requiring you to access your strength, wisdom and courage within. Keeping your energy positive will support transcendence, and seeing your present as a necessary experience in your journey will eventually reveal gifts of growth in a future space of Now.
